The People Who Find a Way Forward
Over more than a decade in healthcare simulation, Giuseppe Mallaci has seen plenty of ambitious projects, aggressive timelines, and technical challenges.
He’s also seen something else: people who keep finding a way forward.
As a typical engineer, Giuseppe says he isn’t one to “toot our own horns.” But ask him about the people he has worked with, and he can name plenty who have contributed to the company’s journey and success.
What stands out to him isn’t one person or one project. It’s a shared characteristic he sees across the teams he has worked with is passion for the challenge.
“People thrive on the challenge of developing new products,” Giuseppe says.
The schedules have historically been aggressive—sometimes, he admits, even unrealistic. But the teams kept pushing. When a project presented a difficult technical problem, someone would look for another approach. When an idea didn’t work, they tried something else.
That mindset continues to shape the company today.
Giuseppe points to a recent example: an employee proposed a novel approach to ultrasound simulation after the original concept ran into technical challenges. A few demonstrations later, that idea had evolved into a full fledged product development.
For Giuseppe, that kind of employee-driven innovation reflects an important shift in how the company operates today. Teams have more opportunities to bring forward ideas, test them, and build on them. Instead of waiting for every detail to be solved before getting started, smaller teams can develop a minimally viable product and continue improving it over time.
And sometimes, the story is even simpler.
Giuseppe laughs about the “miracles” that happen during product development: a system isn’t working, the deadline is approaching, and the team is under tremendous pressure to release the project for production. Then, somehow, at the last second, a solution is found and it works.
Those struggles and challenges aren’t always visible in the finished product. But they’re part of what makes the product possible.
Thirty years of healthcare simulation isn’t only a story of technologies, products, and milestones. It’s also a story of the people willing to take on difficult challenges, bring forward new ideas, and keep working until they find a way.
