Simulation in Action: Centre for Advanced Medical Simulation at Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, Episode 3!

May 26, 2026 1:00 PM - May 26, 2026 2:00 PM

In the next Simulation in Action webinar, we are back with the Centre for Advanced Medical Simulation (CAMS) at NAIT for episode 3 focusing on “Innovation in the Digital Realm.”

At CAMS, innovation isn’t a special initiative—it’s the culture that shapes how the team thinks about technology, solves problems, and prepares for the future of healthcare education.

Elevate welcomes Research Associate Emilio Violato, Simulation Technologist Thomas Waring, and Biomedical Team Lead Michael Lewis to share how CAMS has evolved from early adopters of simulation technology into builders of groundbreaking digital solutions.

They’ll walk through the creation of a photorealistic digital twin of their entire facility, and how that digital twin became the foundation for developing AI scenarios in VR.

You’ll also see how CAMS built the first in-house biomedical repair team in any post-secondary institution, and how these innovations connect back to their mission of creating psychologically safe, future-ready learning environments.

Key takeaways:

  • Discover how CAMS leverages emerging technologies like digital twins, AI, and VR to solve problems that traditional simulation can’t address
  • Explore how CAMS established the first in-house biomedical repair team in any post-secondary institution to maintain thousands of medical devices, reduce costs, and create custom solutions across diverse programs
  • See how CAMS partners with health tech companies to turn their simulation center into a testing and validation hub for medical devices using real healthcare professionals in high-fidelity scenarios
  • Learn how CAMS fosters an innovation culture that gives teams freedom to experiment, fail fast, and build from the ground up—supported by institutional trust and cross-disciplinary collaboration
