ACEP 2025 Recap: How Point-of-Care Ultrasound Is Reshaping Emergency Medicine

The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) 2025 Scientific Assembly lived up to its reputation as the premier event for the emergency medicine community. With thousands of physicians, researchers, and educators in attendance, this year’s conference put a spotlight on one undeniable trend: Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) is transforming the ER.

We attended the event to stay connected with the latest advancements, and one thing stood out immediately: ultrasound was everywhere.

From global leaders like GE Healthcare, Siemens, and Philips, the exhibit floor was packed with solutions designed for emergency scenarios. Whether through specialty-specific presets, real-time image guidance, or AI-driven measurement automation, the emphasis was clear: make ultrasound more accessible, faster, and more intuitive for emergency clinicians.

Each vendor brought a slightly different approach:

  • GE Healthcare focused on POCUS protocols that guide the user through image acquisition and automatically capture clips when optimal images are detected.
  • Surgical Science/IUG highlighted simulation capabilities but showed limitations with probe realism and fidelity.
  • Only two ultrasound simulation companies were represented, a striking contrast to the growing need for realistic training environments.

While we didn’t exhibit this year, it was valuable to see where simulation fits in the current landscape. Our ultrasound training solution, Vimedix, has a unique opportunity to bridge the training gap with a high-fidelity, customizable platform tailored to POCUS applications.

As ACEP’s mission continues to advance emergency care through education and innovation, we’re proud to support that vision by empowering clinicians with the tools they need to succeed.
